The Lake Maggiore area, a favourite destination for discriminating international visitors, is ideal for planning an incentive trip, organizing a meeting or a conference, or for team building activities and corporate events.
The area is especially famous for Stresa and the marvellous islands of the Borromean Gulf, but there are many other places worthy of note, set in superb landscape with picture-postcard views, ideal for walking.
Still in the Borromean Gulf area, Monte Mottarone, the mountain above Stresa, has an exceptionally fine view, a truly breathtaking panorama taking in the Alpine chain, including Monte Rosa, sweeping down to the Po Plain; seven lakes can be seen from the top. In winter Mottarone’s ski slopes guarantee enjoyment for skiers and snowboarders, and in spring and summer the superb Alpinia botanic garden is in full flower to delight visitors.
Towards the southern end of the lake is Arona, a pretty little town famous for its huge statue of San Carlo Borromeo, the saint who was born here. 35 metres high, it welcomes visitors from its site high above the town.
A short ferry trip across the lake, on its Lombard shore, is a fairy-tale medieval castle, the Rocca of Angera. And at the other end lie the attractive Swiss towns of Ascona and Locarno, with the valleys of Val Maggia and Val Verzasca behind them; here there are abundant opportunities for activities like hiking, canyoning, horseback riding and bungee jumping.
